It seems that this week’s opening of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse is already setting records.
Gossip Cop reports that the number of theaters which Eclipse is debuting at tonight and tomorrow is higher than the prior record set by Iron Man 2‘s release.
Eclipse is opening to 4,416 screens across the country (this number doesn’t necessarily reflect the number of midnight opening showings), and this is higher than Iron Man 2‘s prior record-setting 4,380 screen opening.
This will certainly serve to accommodate a larger crowd of filmgoers, but it’ll be interesting to see whether the vast number of screens showing the film will affect the sort of box office calculations that measure intake per screen. Knowing this fandom, though, chances are it’ll only help that there are more screens to view Eclipse on!
