Catherine Hardwicke reveals ‘Twilight’ casting and set decoration secrets to Twilight Lexicon

Whether Twilight is your favorite of the three films or not, there are a few things owed exclusively to Catherine Hardwicke‘s vision and foresight, original casting choices particularly.

At a recent Official Twilight Convention stop in Vancouver, British Columbia, Twilight Lexicon got the opportunity to interview Hardwicke about some of the various nuances associated with the film (albeit in a new and different format), and Hardwicke revealed her mind-set and the circumstances of casting for actors Robert Pattinson (“Edward”) and Taylor Lautner (“Jacob”).

About Pattinson, Hardwicke explained that she knew he was the perfect man for the post because no ordinary boy-next-door looker could fill the spot and receive the same praise the mere name “Edward Cullen” merited. As for Lautner, Hardwicke revealed that she had him audition with material from New Moon to make sure that the chemistry was there between himself and co-star Kristen Stewart (in the then uncertain chance that The Twilight Saga: New Moon and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, etc, would happen).

Good thinking, Catherine!
